Aerogel Blanket

Overview

Synrock's Aerogel Blanket is a flexible, blanket-form insulation product made by blending a glass fiber matrix with silica aerogel. Unlike rigid insulation boards, the blanket conforms to curved and complex surfaces, significantly simplifying installation on industrial pipes, vessels, and building structures.

Developed with fully independent intellectual property — the only aerogel blanket certified FTO (Freedom to Operate) by international patent counsel — our product eliminates export barriers. At 300 °C, thermal conductivity is just 0.028 W/m·K.

Additionally, every 1 m³ of blanket produced sequesters approximately 100 kg of CO₂, and in service prevents around 3,500 kg of CO₂ emissions annually when used in 400℃ steam pipeline insulation — making it one of the most environmentally beneficial insulation materials available.

Key Features

  • Thermal conductivity: ≤ 0.021 W/m·K at 25 °C; ≤ 0.028 W/m·K at 300 °C

Applications

  • Oil & gas pipeline insulation: steam injection lines, LNG facilities, refinery equipment
  • Power generation: steam turbines, boilers, nuclear heat supply pipelines
  • Petrochemical: high-temperature reactors, distillation columns, insulated oil pipes
  • Building & construction: steel structure wall panels, cold storage, green building retrofits
  • Marine vessels: replaces asbestos; engine exhaust pipes, irregular-shaped equipment
  • Removable insulation jackets: valves, flanges, elbows, pumps, and complex fittings
  • Military & field camps: extreme environments requiring lightweight, high-performance insulation

Case Study: Oilfield Steam Injection Pipeline

Field comparison test (30 m pipe run, outer diameter 114 mm, steam at 322.9 °C, 12.63 MPa): Synrock aerogel blanket reduced average heat flux density from 94.45 W/m² to 77.03 W/m² — an 18.4% reduction in heat loss. The reduced wrapping circumference (791 mm vs. 844 mm) also translates to a 10% reduction in material used. For D76 pipelines, total installed cost is reduced by 20%+ versus conventional solutions.
